Letter from Ephraim Young to Governor Guy Carleton, in Halifax, 1785. The letter reads, in part, "Your memorialist most earnestly entreats that he may not be dispossessed of this dear earned fruit of his labours and reduced with his family to the distress that such a measure will subject him to. Confident in the known justice and humanity of your Excellency he therefore humbly requests that your Excellency will be pleased to grant him such propostion of land upon the Island as his labour and improvments shall be thought to entitle him unto." Provincial Archives of New BrunswickThis plea fell on deaf ears. Young and Hanson were forced to vacate Chamcook Island and Captain Osburne took immediate possession.
