McGaw Seeks Tourist school for St. Andrews. MLA Leland McGaw (PC-Charlotte West) called for increased tourist activity in a speech before Legislature March 23. Tourists come to New Brunswick "like fish to a weir," he said, but "far too many pass through to other locations." Nothing that tourists spent $140 million in the province last year, McGaw offered suggestions to increase this figure. He proposed establishing a hospitality school at the provincially owned Algonquin Hotel in St. Andrews, mentioning the fact that $1.3 million has been budgeted this year for renovation to the only resort hotel in the province . . .

Shiretown Proposes Park for Minister's Island

A proposal to acquire Minister's Island as a national park was put forth at the November meeting of the St. Andrews Town Council. A motion introduced by Councillor David Scarratt, seconded by Councillor Mary Saunders, that "the Town of St. Andrews formally ask the Federal and Provincial governments to acquire Minister's Island for national purposes."
