The lighthouse at Sand Reef was located just off the tip of Navy Island, on Sand Reef shoal, a sand-bar which made the lighthouse accessible by foot at low tide. It was constructed in 1876 and was burned in 1969, in anticipation of the visit of the Queen Mother.
